Freya Grand: JOURNEYS
On view now through Sunday, April 10th
Freya Grand is primarily known for her large, immersive landscapes, work that speaks of her experiences in remote places such as the Andes, the rough coasts of Scotland and Ireland, the deserts of Namibia. These works envelop the viewer, fill the field of vision with their emotionally resonant depictions.
During 2020 and 2021, Freya began making a series of very small works (2” and 3” in size) and mounting them in accordion-fold books. She has said that during the fearful days of the early lockdown, these miniature narratives gave her a way to focus, a way to manage, a kind of visual diary. She thought about Chapbooks and the compelling tiny worlds contained in Books of Days. She thought about how the world around us seemed to be contracting and that we could now “only peer at life through a keyhole.”
